13 September 2013 Mtwara –Tanga Cement PLC has constructed and handed over a block of two classrooms, toilets and desks to Mangowela Primary School in Mtwara.

Speaking during the handing over ceremony which included Uhuru torch race, Mr. Onesmo Kitomary, Safety, Health and Environmental Manager, on behalf of TCCL Managing Director said, “As part of the company CSI program we have been supporting schools throughout the country and we feel honored to be part of Mangowela Primary school’s development by improving these facilities. We believe a better education is provided in a better environment. These pupils need good studying environment for better understanding of their studies. We have been seeing country’s development and specifically Mtwara, with discovery of gas, we are very much sure experts will be needed to work in here. The Mangolewa Primary School’s children that we are seeing today, are the tomorrow’s experts if we provide them with better education from studying environment”.

Mr. Kitomary called upon other firms to join hands with Tanga Cement Company to support the education sector in Tanzania which will be a catalyst to development of the country. He further added; We Tanga Cement PLC have been supporting government’s initiatives of developing education sector by constructing and donating classrooms and providing desks for schools. I now call upon other companies to support this initiative. If we all join hands together, no school in the country will either face classrooms or desks shortages”.

This donation was made through company’s CSI program which focuses on the areas of health, education, environment, and community development. Tanga Cement PLC spent a total of Tzs67, 395,134 for constructions of these classrooms, toilets and desks.
