Tanga, 21 October 2014 – Tanga Cement Public Limited Company has donated a total of one thousand (1000) bags of Simba cement to Mkinga district as part of Corporate Social Investment program which aims at supporting Tanzania communities. The donated cement will be used for constructing secondary schools’ laboratories in the district. The total of donated cement is Tzs12,390,000.
Speaking during the handover ceremony Tanga Cement Public Limited Company Managing Director Mr Reinhardt Swart said, “Tanga Cement Public Limited Company understands the value of development of the communities in the areas around its operations in various parts of the country. In doing so, we have been supporting different communities in the country in focusing mainly on health, education, environment preservation and community development and sustainability. If you look at our percentage spend in all the mentioned areas, education consumes the largest percentage as we have been supporting schools in different parts of the country by constructing classrooms, laboratories, libraries, teachers’ houses, toilets as well as donating desks.’’
He further added; “The donated cement will help in improving students learning environment since they will be able to learn practically. I call upon other companies to support the education sector in the country by working together with government in identifying the needs that are catalyst for the growth of education in Tanzania’’.
The company has already spent a total of Tzs211.2 million for various CSR activities in the country in 2014.
